Please read the following instructions carefully.

The Night Before your Scheduled Appointment:

  • Keep your pet safely inside your home.
  • No food for an adult pet (including bones, treats, snacks) after midnight.
  • Pets under 4 months should have a small meal on the morning of surgery.
  • Water is fine until the morning of the procedure. We recommend taking it away when you wake up that morning, so your animal has a small amount of time without it before coming in.

Orthopedic/TPLO Surgery:

  • Restrict your pet’s movement to only leash-walks just for elimination- no stairs and jumping. This will reduce further harm to the injured leg and prevent your pet from injuring their other leg since they will be compensating on that leg.
  • Confine your pet to a crate/play pen/small room, depending on the size of your pet, to prepare them for the recovery period.
  • Put a cone on your pet to get them use to wearing one after the surgery.
  • Give your pet joint supplements such as glucosamine combination, Vet Form CT Support Plus, Recovery SA, or Geri-Active before and after the surgery. This will help in the healing process and help maintain good joint health.
  • If the surgery is more than 2 weeks away, please get your pet weekly cartrophen shots from your vet.

The Day of Surgery:

  • Drop off time the day of the surgery is between 8:00 – 10:00 am.
  • Admission typically takes 10-30 minutes to complete, depending on the type of surgery.
  • All dogs must be wearing a collar and leash and all cats must be in carrier.
  • Please give your dog a good walk prior to arrival so that they can urinate and defecate before the surgery.

Discharge:

  • For routine surgeries pick up is same day between 4:30-6:00 pm.
  • For orthopedics and other major surgeries, we may require your pet to stay overnight and pick up will be next day between 10:00 am and 12:00 pm.
  • We will give you both verbal and written instructions for the post-surgery care.
